New Media Productions

The following are the various podcasts, mobile videos, and new-media-based projects that I've worked on in this ever-evolving field.

New Media Update

Picture
New Media Update is a 10 episode podcast conceived, written, shot, and edited entirely by Kiley Dorton and myself.  Jennifer Strickland and Justin Williams contributed with their "J&J" segment every week.

This podcast was designed to highlight what was happening in the New Media Institute and tech world.  Having completed the capstone class, Kiley and I wanted to stay involved in the department.  We wanted to do something that would give back to program that gave us so much.

The Atlanta AIDS PPSA Project

Picture
The AIDS PPSA (personal public service announcement) Project was aimed at creating videos for cellphones, using cellphones, that encouraged people to get tested for HIV/AIDS.  We worked with Verizon and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) who helped fund and distribute this campaign.  While organizing the event took several months, it all culminated on one day in Atlanta.  We brought in teams of people from around the country to compete against one another for producing the best, most educational, most influential, most creative videos to get tested.  Oh yeah, and they only had one day to do it.  The PPSAs that were deemed the best were then released over Verizon's VCast from June 20th through July 20th- also spanning over National HIV/AIDS Testing Day.

Check out the project and videos in more detail here.

Or see the videos at the CDC's YouTube channel here.

Technology for the Turnaround

Picture
I was fortunate enough to be one of the few who helped put on Technology for the Turnaround.  The Tech4Turn event was hosted by the New Media Institute where we brought in 175 new media professionals to discuss modern trends, using social media for public good, technology investments, how advancements can counter the economic downturn and where this new area is taking us.

I was in charge of making sure everything ran smoothly-  from setting up meeting rooms and equipment, coordinating presentations, organizing events and discussions.  I had the privilege of meeting several high ranking industry leaders, and participating in discussions with innovators that will change the world.

Mobile Media Movement

Picture
The Mobile Media Movement was our effort to inform people on how to shoot video for cellphones, and how to shoot video using cellphones.  We created a website with tutorial videos for tips, tricks, and things to keep in mind as you are creating your mobile content.

Check them out here.

MobileDawgs

Picture
The MobileDawgs were composed of myself, Kiley Dorton, and Kate Nichols.  As an independent study we created two shows comprising of three episodes each.  It was anticipated that the content would be used as initial programming for the University of Georgia's newly acquired television station WNEG and part of the newly acquired spectrum space was to be allocated for mobile video usage.

The first show was called "CitySmart" and it focused on highlighting local amenities- in our case restaurants.  We shot the episodes using the Nokia N95 cellphone.  You can watch the CitySmart episodes here.

The second show was called "Tubeular" and it focused on local celebrities and their favorite YouTube videos.  In our particular case, we were unable to get any celebrities, so we filled in to demonstrate how it would work.  You can find Tubeular here (coming soon).
